Crestview HS Students and Teacher Chosen For Women In Technology Awards

Crestview High School had an educator winner, student winner and two student runner-ups for the 2016 National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) Mid-Gulf Coast Affiliate Award for Aspirations in Computing.  NCWIT is a non-profit community that works to increase involvement in computing and technology for women. The NCWIT mission is important because there is “one woman to sixteen men in technology”.

The NCWIT Mid-Gulf Coast Affiliate Award for Aspirations and Computing ceremony was held February 20th at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, Ala.

The student winner was senior, Madison Corbin and the runner-ups were Alexis Caldwell (12th grade) and Lauren Bailey (11th grade).  The student winner received recognition at the award ceremony, an engraved trophy, scholarship and internship opportunities and many other prizes.  The student runner-ups were also recognized at the award ceremony and received a printed certificate along with many other prizes.

The Educator award was given to technology teacher Shanna Suggs.  The Educator Award is given to the instructors who encourage girls to pursue their involvement in technology. Suggs was also recognized at the ceremony and presented an engraved trophy.  Additionally, she received $250 in cash, up to $750 towards professional development training for workshops and various other prizes.
