Bob Sikes ES Students Build Marble Rollercoasters For Science

Jennifer Knight’s 5th grade Science class at Bob Sikes Elementary School demonstrated their knowledge of motion, energy, and forces by building a marble roller coaster driven by gravity.

“Through problem solving and perseverance their coasters converted potential energy to kinetic energy,” said Knight.  “Students made line graphs to compare the height of their coaster’s first drop to the distance the marble traveled.  They also timed the marble in order to calculate its speed.”
