It has been a challenging year, and our teachers and staff have worked hard to provide your child the best possible education in a difficult situation. While you may feel that some questions do not apply this year based on your situation, we invite your input in every area that is relevant to you and your child.

Bus Bulletin - Get Real-time Updates About Your Student's Bus!

We are excited to announce that on April 5th, the Okaloosa County School District will begin using Bus Bulletin to send notifications to parents if there are unexpected delays or schedule changes involving your student’s bus. We know that families are concerned about the safety of their students, and this notification system will keep you updated if there are delays in getting your student to and from school.

If you would like to receive these notifications, please register with Bus Bulletin at the website below. Parents will need to know their student’s school name and bus number.

  • There is no cost for this service.
  • Registration is simple and fast.
  • You can choose to receive text messages, phone calls, and e-mails.
  • All contact information is stored securely and will not be shared or sold - your privacy is protected.

Early Registration and Summer VPK

The Okaloosa County School District will begin early registration for the 2021-22 school year on March 8. This registration is for children new to the school district, including those entering kindergarten. Florida law provides that any child who will be five on or before September 1st is eligible for kindergarten that school year.

Registration may be completed online at https://www.okaloosaschools.com/schools/2021/registration-portal or at any time during the regular school day at your child’s zoned school.

To complete the registration process, parents/guardians must have:

  • Proof of the child’s age (birth certificate)
  • Florida certificate of immunization
  • Social Security card
  • School physical dated no later than 12 months before the first day of school
  • Proof of residency

Parents/guardians may obtain further information by calling your child's zoned school or Curriculum and Instruction at 850.833.4208.

Summer VPK Registration for the 2021-2022 School Year

Registration for the Summer VPK Program is also available. Florida law provides that any child who turned five on or before September 1, 2021, and is eligible to attend kindergarten in the 2021-2022 school year and did not attend VPK during the current 2020-2021 school year is eligible to participate in Summer VPK. To register for Summer VPK, a certificate of eligibilitymust be obtained from the Early Learning Coalition.

For Summer VPK enrollment, parents/guardians must have:

  • Proof of Florida residency
  • All registration documents listed above for school registration The Summer VPK site will be Elliott Point Elementary (South area), enrollment permitting.

Parents must provide transportation for Summer VPK students. Further information for Summer VPK enrollment may be obtained by calling the Early Learning Coalition Program at 850.833.3627 or Ms. Debbie Haan at 850.689.7211.

Superintendent's Update to Parents on 2020-21 School Year

Based on guidance from the Florida Department of Education and parent/student feedback, the Superintendent of Schools, Marcus Chambers has released the plans to open schools next fall on the scheduled start date of August 11th. The District is still studying all of the details involved with safely re-opening our schools, and respects that families have wide-ranging opinions about what that means.

The OCSD Summer Bridge Website contains materials and web resources for students in grades K-8 (ELA, Math, and ESOL) to use over the summer.

Viewing and Ordering Spring Pictures:

We have been notified by Bill Miller Photographers that spring picture proofs are available for online viewing and orders. Parents wishing to view their child's proofs should call the Bill Miller office at 256-892-3150 weekdays from 8:00-12:00 or 1:00-4:00 to obtain an access code. You may also email hello@billmillerphotographers.com to obtain an access code.

ClassLink Access to Odyseeyware:

ClassLink access to Odysseyware should be working; we are finding that some users are not waiting for the Single-Sign On process to complete (up to 7 seconds) when they click on the Odysseyware App in ClassLink before attempting to move forward or closing the app and assuming the SSO does not work.

 If waiting does not resolve the issue and the student is stuck at the Odysseyware site, they can get through by entering their One Okaloosa ID/username (but in all lowercase letters).  The password for Odysseyware is the word student, which also must be lowercase.  This username and password configuration is specific to Odysseyware and will not work anywhere else.  Again, try waiting up to 7 seconds when clicking the Odysseyware link in ClassLink before trying this method.

In addition, iPad users who are using their personal device may need to download the Classlink Launchpad app from the App Store.

For those using personal laptops, they may need to download the Chrome browser extension if they are using Chrome. They may also need to install the Classlink OneClick extension (from Google Chrome)  found here: https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/classlink-oneclick-extens/jgfbgkjjlonelmpenhpfeeljjlcgnkpe?hl=en

Additional iPad Information:

  1. On an iPad, students should access ClassLink using the app that is installed on the device, not by going to ClassLink through the internet.
  2. For Odysseyware, once a student is logged in to Odysseyware, if they actually click the sign out button, the single sign on will not work the next time.  The student should just click the X at the top right of the page if they are a single user of the device and that will keep Odysseyware working for them.

It is always best practice to sign out of ClassLink.  If multiple students are using the same iPad, it is a necessity.

Respiratory Illness Prevention

During this time of peak flu season and in collaboration with the Department of Health in Okaloosa County we ask that you help us protect our students and staff by practicing the following prevention steps: Prevent Respiratory Illness.

Florosa ES Family Engagement Plan (PFEP):

The Florosa ES Family Engagement Plan (PFEP) was approved by Florosa Elementary School’s School Advisory Committee (SAC) on Tuesday, November 19, 2019.  It provides a guide on how Florosa reaches out to and communicates and works with parents as partners. Please take a moment to review the programs we have in place for parent engagement.  We welcome and look forward to your input and comments on the PFEP.

Florida DOE 2018-2019 School Report Card:

The Florida DOE 2018-2019 School Report Card is generated from the Florida Department of Education. The data provides demographic information, reports on assessments and achievements, and compares our data to students across Okaloosa County as well as from across the state.

Parent Satisfaction Survey:

Our district is on a continuous journey to make our schools the best places for students to learn, staff to work and parents to send their children for a great education. In this effort, we appreciate your support. It is important to gather feedback from you to celebrate successes and identify areas for growth. Please take a few minutes and complete this Parent Satisfaction Survey to help provide this feedback.

Once the survey is complete, the results will be analyzed by an outside organization. The data from the survey will be returned to the District to be shared with each school, its parents and the community.

The survey can be accessed online at OCSD Parent Satisfaction Survey. Our school may also provide you with a paper copy to complete.

The survey will be available through March 13, 2020.
