Standards Resources

Standards have been established at the national and state levels for many curricular areas. Currently, 49 states have adopted state standards and most districts, including Okaloosa county, are assisting schools in initiating school-based reforms in an effort to bring about better student performance.

Explore curriculum and professional development resources that support a standards-based model of planning, assessment, and instruction. Beacon resources are written by teachers, for teachers, and undergo a rigorous validation process.

Florida Sunshine State Standards
The Sunshine State Standards (SSS) were approved by the State Board of Education in 1996 to provide expectations for student achievement in Florida. The Standards were written in seven subject areas, each divided into four separate grade clusters (PreK-2, 3-5, 6-8, and 9-12). These links will assist you in understanding the Standards.

National Standards
The national standards movement began in the mid-to late-1990s; today there are national standards for every subject area. These Weblinks will help you to become more knowledgeable on the standards movement and to find standards-related resources.
