2020-2021 School Update

Here is the latest update as of July 29, 2020 from the Superintendent about the 2020-2021 school year.

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to a new school year. I realize this school year brings forth many questions about student safety as never before. We wanted to take a moment to outline some of our routines and procedures as you make a decision as to whether your child returns to a traditional school setting or My School Online.

Some of our routines and procedures will include

  • Temperature checks for staff and students will be mandatory before entering the building
  • Temperature of 100.4 or higher will require a child to go home
  • Students that live within our school zone but are not eligible for bus service will be the only designated walkers. All other students will be car or bus riders and use designated arrival/dismissal ramps.
  • Parents/guardians will not be permitted to walk their child to class effective August 31, 2020
  • Masks, as of today, are optional in the building, but will be required on the bus. If you can’t provide a mask one will be made available.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be added to every classroom and entryway
  • Social distancing will be maintained in all areas as feasible. Classrooms will be rearranged out of clusters and desks moved as far apart as possible.
  • Students will be broken into groups for PE and Music that remain the same during skill based lessons and equipment will be cleaned frequently
  • Lunch: We are spacing out our servicing times as much as possible. No visitors will be allowed to eat with students
  • Check in/out procedures: parent will come to the front door and announce that you are checking out your student. You will be allowed into the visitor area where you will use the kiosk to complete this procedure
  • Parents will not be allowed past the visitor area at any time for at least the first nine weeks (this includes volunteers)
  • Students on ramp will follow directional flow arrows
  • Health clinic: If a child gets sick at school the parents MUST come pick them up
  • If a child has any of the following illnesses while at home DO NO T send them to school
    • Fever or chills
    • Persistent cough or shortness of breath
    • Sore throat
    • Nausea, vomiting or Diarrhea
  • If a staff member or child tests positive for Covid 19, protocols will be in place to notify identified stakeholders of any changes to the student’s daily routine
  • Absences due to quarantine/illness; Teachers will provide missed assignments in the teacher drop boxes on the Edwins webpage
  • Parents will be contacted by their student’s classroom teacher prior to August 6 for all grade levels.
  • Grades 1-5 will have a virtual/video Open House located on the Edwins’ website under their child’s homeroom teacher link.
  • Kindergarten is the only grade level with on campus orientation.
  • Students will not share supplies (See supply lists posted to Facebook/website) and a labeled water bottle is being recommended due to limited use of the water fountains

If you are interested in providing any supplies to help with maintaining a healthy school the following items will be appropriate: clear dividers, face shields, infrared thermometers, tissues, hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes.
