DRESS CODE-DESTIN MIDDLE SCHOOL

Students at DMS are required to wear uniform dress on Monday-Thursday.
Shirts can be ordered through our PE Department
 
Additional uniform shirts are available through Eagles Nest Sports Apparel or TSP Screenprinting & Embroidery

Student dress that does not conform to the uniform dress code will be referred to the administration.  
Students inappropriately dressed or groomed will contact parents to bring them appropriate dress immediately. 
We discourage loss of instructional time resulting from inappropriate dress.  Dress for Success!

 

In adopting a uniform dress code, it is the intent of Destin Middle School to insure a standard appropriate student appearance.  Our staff and parents believe uniform student dress is important in promoting the safety and well-being of all students and limiting interruptions to the instructional process.

Student dress that does not conform to the uniform dress code will be referred to the administration.  Students with inappropriate pants, skirt, skorts, shorts, or tops will contact parents to bring appropriate dress immediately.  We discourage loss of instructional time resulting from inappropriate dress.  Dress for Success!

  • Monday-Thursday:  DMS uniform T-shirts, DMS spirit shirts, school club, sport shirts
  • Friday:  Free choice day (according to Okaloosa County School Board Dress Code)
  • No modification of uniform dress shirts: cutting out logo, inappropriate writing on shirt, knots tied in front, back or side, homemade shirts, taped, pinned or velcroed logo.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to wear DMS outerwear, such as jackets, sweaters, or hoodies.  Any outerwear that does not have a DMS logo must be removed or fully unzipped while indoors so that the DMS shirt remains visible.
  • Slacks/pants, shorts, skirts etc., must be worn at waist level.  No midriff showing.  Students with bare midriffs will be issued a DMS shirt or remain in the office until a parent arrives.

·       Pants made of stretch-like material (i.e., jeggings, leggings, yoga pants) MUST be covered with shirt that reaches or exceeds the fingertips when extended to the side.

  • No spaghetti straps or tank tops will be allowed and the back must be covered. All shirts must be appropriately fitting and straps be at least 3 inches wide. No undergarments may show.
  • Dresses/skirts, shorts, and skorts: Must approach the knee.
  • Extremely baggy, oversized pants that drag on floor and pants/shorts with holes above the knee are not allowed; student will remain in the office until a parent brings replacement clothing.
  • Low-cut tops, boxer shorts, bedroom slippers, pajamas, head garments/bandanas are not allowed.
  • Sunglasses are not permitted to be worn in the classroom unless medically necessary and documented.
  • Inappropriate advertising or slogans, hats and garments with gang symbols are not allowed.
  • After the student has been issued one shirt provided by the office, the discipline process will be put into effect.

 

Steps for violation of uniform dress code or wearing inappropriate attire:

  • Step 1   Warning:  Change into shirt provided by the office.
  • Step 2   Parents Notified:  Parent to bring proper shirt
  • Step 3  After 3rd Violation:  Student will lose ‘Free Dress’ privilege on Fridays after 3rd violation.

The administration reserves the right to modify the Dress
