This is an Okaloosa County School District safety bulletin sent to you on behalf of Superintendent of Schools Mary Beth Jackson.  School district officials along with Okaloosa County Emergency Management personnel have continued to monitor the development of Hurricane Michael.    Based on the most recent forecasts and predictions by the National Weather service in Mobile, all schools and all school activities are cancelled for Tuesday and Wednesday.  The storm continues to strengthen. The most recent forecasts for the storm, shared at a meeting this morning at the Emergency Operations Center predicts landfall between Navarre and Panama City.  Some of our schools are designated as Red Cross shelters and will be prepared to serve as shelters if necessary for evacuees tomorrow.  Davidson Middle School will be opening this evening at 5:00 p.m. as a special needs shelter.  Again, all school activities are cancelled for tomorrow and Wednesday.  We will make another callout when schools are ready to reopen.  Please make the necessary plans for your family’s safety now.  Student safety is our top priority. Thank you.
