Reopening Schools

Okaloosa County School District Update - 9.18.20 @6pm

Parents, we have completed assessments of school buildings, and power has been fully restored to all but two locations which we expect to be addressed tomorrow. As a result, school is scheduled to resume on Monday, September 21st.

Reports of roadways being opened continue to come in. Bus transportation will be available with drivers taking extra caution where needed. We certainly want our families to take any necessary precautions to stay safe. Please notify your school if road closures or lack of power limit your ability to get to school.

We would like to thank Gulf Power for working around the clock to restore power to our schools and to our Emergency Operations personnel and first responders who have worked to keep all of us safe.

We may provide you with additional updates over the weekend, if needed. Otherwise, we look forward to school resuming on Monday.

Thank you and have a safe weekend.

Weather Update - 9.16.20 @ 12:30pm

Following consultation with the Okaloosa County Director of Public Safety, Superintendent Marcus Chambers has announced that schools will remain closed Thursday, September 17th in the aftermath of Hurricane Sally. Significant flooding has occurred and will continue to occur which will make travel in many areas of the county unsafe, if not impossible. Many students and staff are currently without power and facing limited access to and from their homes.

District staff will begin the process of assessing schools late this afternoon and early tomorrow and we will work with county emergency operations officials to review road closures that could impact travel for both students and employees. A final decision regarding school on Friday will be made tomorrow.

Please stay safe and stay in touch for updates through our website, social media, callouts, and local media outlets.
