Celebration of OCSD Class of 2020 Anne T. Mitchell Honorees - A Message from Superintendent Chambers
Each year, our School Board hosts a reception honoring the top academic seniors in Okaloosa County. Typically, 1,500 students, parents and friends join together in celebration of academic excellence at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at Northwest Florida State College. Regrettably, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event had to be canceled this year. However, I am pleased to announce that this special group is being honored in a unique way this year with a two-page spread in the Northwest Florida Daily News. Each honor student from Baker, Choctawhatchee, Crestview, Fort Walton, Laurel Hill and Niceville is recognized, and each school’s principal has provided an inspirational quote. In addition, the six nominees for the Peggy Gorday Bruner award, which recognizes the most outstanding scholar among all the county’s graduating classes, are highlighted.
Look for the spread in Thursday’s Northwest Florida Daily News.
I would like to thank each of our School Board Members: Chairman Tim Bryant, Vice-Chairman Dr. Diane Kelley, Linda Evanchyk, Dewey Destin and Dr. Lamar White for their recognition of these students through the Anne T. Mitchell awards program. I invite our community to join me in celebrating these students’ accomplishments thus far and in challenging them to even greater achievement going forward!!
