Cadet Cassidy Bassett, FWBHS, to Attend the US Air Force Academy
Cadet Cassidy Bassett, Fort Walton Beach High School, recently received an appointment and will attend the United States Air Force Academy.
Cassidy is a 4-year AFJROTC Cadet, she maintains a 4.48 GPA and ranks in the top 4% of her class. Her rigorous course load includes Honors and Advanced Placement for all core classes. She is a member of the National Honor Society, the Science National Honor Society, and has been a Viking Scholar and attained the All A’s Honor Roll every year.
Bassett’s contributions to AFJROTC has been significant. In her freshman year, she commanded the Drill Team to a second place win of 15 schools. She has been a member and the Color Guard Team Commander, the Kitty Hawk Honor Society Commander, and Group Executive Officer. She led the Awareness Presentation Team and helped teach middle school students how to have successful high school experiences and spent 145 hours providing music tutoring at an elementary school. This year, Cassidy attained the highest position within AFJROTC when selected as the Corps Commander.
Despite an intensive academic load, Cassidy actively participates in Improvisation and has been a key member and co-captain of Fort Walton Beach High School Girl’s Lacrosse team. She has accumulated over 300 volunteer hours to the community including assisting with the placement of over 1,800 flags for veterans in our local cemetery on both Veterans and Memorial Days each year, served over 5,000 community members at each of three Farm Day events, served at three annual Pancake Breakfast fundraisers with proceeds of over $3,000 donated to the Fisher House and the Enlisted Village, and organized and led several other events and earned the Community Service trophy for having the most volunteer hours last year.
Cassidy earned numerous academic, local, and national AFJROTC awards to include the Principals Award, Top Performer Award, Cadet of the Quarter twice, Air Force Association Academic Award, Air Force Association Leadership Award, the Military Order of World Wars Outstanding Cadet Award, attended the Cadet Leadership Course at Hurlburt Field, attended the Air Force Academy summer session, and was a Florida Girls State delegate. Cassidy will attend the United States Air Force Academy and will study Meteorology.
