FDOE Commissioner, Richard Corcoran, and Florida’s Teacher of the Year, Dr. Dakeyan Chá Dré, Visit Riverside ES
Florida Department of Education (FDOE) Commissioner Richard Corcoran stopped by Riverside Elementary School in Crestview, Florida to help kick off the 2019-2020 school year. Visiting with him was Florida’s Teacher of the Year, Dr. Dakeyan Chá Dré, the Director of Bands and Orchestras at C. Leon King High School in Hillsborough County, Florida.
Together, they enchanted Erin Osborn’s 2nd-grade class with a song, activities, and a spirited reading of Dr. Seuss’s Green Eggs and Ham. At the conclusion, the two presented each student with their own book. “It was fantastic to see Commissioner Corcoran and Dr. Dré interact with the students. They did a wonderful job inspiring the students to dream big and challenging them to have a great year,” stated Superintendent Marcus Chambers. “I am so grateful that the Commissioner was able to visit our county and see some of our terrific students and staff. The leadership he has shown at the state level gives me confidence that Florida’s education system is poised for greatness.”
Riverside Principal, Melissa Kearley, and her staff pulled out all the stops to make the visit a great success. “We were so honored to have Commissioner Corcoran and Dr. Dré at Riverside Elementary School today. Having the opportunity to showcase our students, teachers, and staff is always an honor.”
Also in attendance was School Board member Tim Bryant, representing Crestview area schools, who echoed the sentiments of the Superintendent and Principal Kearley. “It was a great morning for our kids, and I want to thank the Commissioner and Dr. Dré for taking time from their schedules to visit with us.”
