8600010 Introduction to Technology

Grade 6, 7, 8 – Year Long

Introduction to Technology will expose students to the facets of technology. Students will learn the basics of computer programming, game design, engineering, and robotics. Students will learn basic programming concepts through the Lego EV3 robotics platform. Students will explore the 7 fields of technology through hands-on projects and activities. Students will learn the skill of Technical Drawings and Sketches. Students will have the opportunity to earn a Computer Essentials Certificate and Gaming Essentials Certificate. 


8600090 Exploring of Technical Design Technology

Grade 6, 7, 8 – Year Long

Exploration of Technical Design Technology gives students an opportunity to explore the area of technical design technology and its associated careers. Students will be given the opportunity to solve technological problems using a variety of tools, materials, processes and systems while gaining an understanding of the effects of technical design technology on our everyday lives. Students will bring their creative minds, creative abilities, and hands-on skills together to solve challenges.


9009200 Coding Fundamentals

Grade 6, 7, 8- Year Long

Coding Fundamentals assists Information Technology students in making informed decisions regarding their future academic and occupational goals and to provide information regarding careers in the career cluster. The content includes but is not limited to foundational knowledge and skills related to computer coding and software development. Students will learn C++ basics and gain experience using a software compiler.  Instruction and learning activities are provided in a laboratory setting using hands-on experiences with the equipment, materials and technology appropriate to the course content and in accordance with current practices. Students will have the opportunity to earn ICT Web Essentials Digital Tool Certificate. 


8600020 Exploring Technology

Grade 7, 8 – Year Long

Prerequisites – Successful completion of an introductory level technology course

The Exploring Technology course gives students a more advanced knowledge of programming, game design, engineering, and robotics. Students will learn more advanced programming concepts through the Lego EV3 robotics platform, as well as other electronics engineering. Students will explore the 7 fields of technology through hands on projects and activities.  Students will have the opportunity to earn their Programming & Logic Certification.


8600092 Exploring Maritime Technology

Grade 7, 8 – Year Long

Prerequisites – Successful completion of an introductory level technology course

The Exploring Maritime Technology course gives students an opportunity to explore the area of maritime technology and its associated careers. Students will be given the opportunity to solve technological problems using a variety of tools, materials, processes and systems while gaining an understanding of the effects of maritime technology on our everyday lives. Students will assemble a working ROV from given components.


8600050 Exploration of Aerospace Technology

Grade 7, 8- Year Long

Prerequisites – Successful completion of an introductory level technology course

The Exploration of Aerospace Technology course gives students an opportunity to explore the area of aerospace technology and its associated careers. Students will be given the opportunity to solve technological problems using a variety of tools, materials, processes and systems while gaining an understanding of the effects of aerospace technology on our everyday lives.  Students will assemble a working UAV/drone from given components.  Students will learn the fundamentals of aerospace engineering through exploration and problem-solving challenges involving drones.


9009500 Fundamentals of Web and Software Development

Grade 7, 8 – Year Long

Prerequisites – Successful completion of level II CTE courses

The Fundamentals of Web and Software Development course assist students in making informed decisions regarding their future academic and occupational goals and to provide information regarding careers in the Information Technology career cluster.  The content includes but is not limited to foundational knowledge and skills related to web and software development in the information technology industry.  Instruction and learning activities are provided in a laboratory setting using hands-on experiences with the equipment, materials and technology appropriate to the course content and in accordance with current practices. Students will have the opportunity to earn an MTA Intro to Programming Using HTML & CSS Industry Certification.


8600070 Exploration of Robotics

Grade 8 – Year Long

Prerequisites – Successful completion of level II CTE courses

In the Exploration of Robotics course, students will learn all about the nature of technology and problem-solving using robotics as the platform. Students have opportunities to study the scope of technology and its impacts on society. They learn about the core concepts of technology and about the various approaches to solving problems, including engineering design and experimentation. Students participate in engineering-design activities to understand how criteria, constraints, and processes affect designs. Students are involved in activities and experiences where they learn about brainstorming, visualizing, modeling, constructing, testing, experimenting, and refining designs. Students also develop skills in researching for information and communicating design information.


9001110 Foundations of Web Design

Grade 8 – Year Long

High School Credit: 1 credit

Course Weight 4.5

Prerequisites: Successful completion of an intermediate level technology course

Foundations of Web Design provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills needed to prepare for further education and careers such as an Assistant Web Designer, a Web Designer, and Senior Web Designer in the Information Technology career cluster; provides technical skill proficiency, and includes competency-based applied learning that contributes to the academic knowledge, higher-order reasoning and problem-solving skills, work attitudes, general employability skills, technical skills, and occupation-specific skills, and knowledge of all aspects of the Information Technology career cluster.  The content includes but is not limited to operating system commands and web document development, design, promotion and scripting. Students will have the opportunity to earn the MTA Introduction to Programming Using HTML5 & CSS3 certification.
