Shoal River Middle School provides students with a variety of activities to meet the diverse needs and interests of our students. We encourage all students to get involved in extracurricular sports, clubs and activities which will broaden their horizons and prepare them for high school and beyond.

Academic Team: The Academic team is made up of 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who have a wealth of knowledge and quick buzzer fingers. The purpose of the team is to give students the opportunity to display their knowledge of academic trivia. Students compete against other middle schools in Okaloosa County. See Ms. Gugliemino for more information.

Band and Chorus: The purpose of the SRMS Band and Chorus program is to bring music and happiness to all the students at Shoal River. See Ms. Whaley or Mr. Box for more information.

Fellowship of Christian Students: The Fellowship Of Christian Students is a student-led, student-initiated club that brings together students of the Christian faith to pray, encourage one another toward good works, and perform services for the students and staff. FCS gives students an opportunity to gather and share concerns, scriptures, and prayers for their school. All Shoal River students may participate. See Mr. Barnes for more information.

Junior Student 2 Student: JS2S is a program at Shoal River designed to help transferring military students as they become part of the Shoal River Community. See  for more information or visit the JS2S page here.

MultiCultural Council: The purpose of the MultiCultural Council is to function as a support network that encourages high scholastic achievement, leadership, extracurricular involvement and community service. Membership is by invitation only and is open to ALL minority groups. New members are invited in August. Students must complete an application, have no office referrals and have at least a 2.8 GPA. Meetings are every other Tuesday from 3:00 - 4:00 pm. See Ms. Williams for more information.

National Junior Honor Society: NJHS members have achieved academic success and are recommended for membership by the Shoal River faculty. Members participate in school and community projects. See  for more information.  NJHS page here

SSTRIDE: Science Students Together Reaching Instructional Diversity and Excellence -is an outreach program sponsored by the Florida State University College of Medicine in conjunction with the Okaloosa School District CHOICE program. Students receive information regarding careers in the Health sciences, an introduction to medical ethics, and do an in-depth study of several human body systems . A stringent curriculum is augmented with frequent labs, relevant field trips, academic competition at FSU, tutoring and participating in community service, such as Brain Trauma Presentations at Crestview elementary schools. Students selected to continue on to the high school program will not only continue the enhanced labs, field trips, and other community service projects but receive additional test prep, college application assistance, and the opportunity to participate in summer camps.
Should a student decide to go to FSU, he/she is able to continue in SSTRIDE, receiving tutoring, mentoring, and advising as an undergraduate with the option to continue through Med School. Applications are given out to students that qualify for and are interested in the program during Spring registration. SSTRIDE is a class period that counts for one elective credit. See Ms. Moore for more information.

Student Government: The Shoal River Student Government is made up of officers and representatives from the 6th, 7th and 8th grades. The members serve as a voice to the school administration representing the student body on school-wide issues. The Student Government sponsors numerous activities throughout the school year to promote school unity and good citizenship among students, improve school morale, and to promote the general welfare of the school. These activities comprise school, community, and social projects such as; dances, canned food drive, and teacher appreciation week, etc. To join Student Government you must have a 3.0 GPA and receive the recommendation of two teachers and 25 peers. After it has been determined you meet the qualifications for Student Government, then you will campaign and be elected into Student Government by your peers. Campaigning and Elections are held in the beginning of each school year. The SRMS Student Government typically meets every Tuesday afternoon from 2:50-3:30.
Weekly meetings are used to discuss and solve any problems or issues among the student body at Shoal River. Schedules are also made out for our fundraisers and school service projects. See Mr. Maddens for more information.

Yearbook and Journalism: The purpose of the yearbook and journalism class is to produce the Shoal River Yearbook, the Mustang Round Up, and the Shoal River Newspaper, Hoof Prints. See Ms. Lancaster for more information.
