The School Board voted 3-2 for Calendar "B" last night, returning the district to the early start/early finish calendar. The 2010/2011 school year will begin August 5 and will end May 19 for students.

School Board members weighed input from calendar meetings, the calendar survey and many phone calls and emails from parents, teachers, students, administrators and staff members in making their decision.

Because Okaloosa is classified as a high-performing school district, according to criteria set by the State legislature, the School Board had flexibility in determining the school calendar this year. Okaloosa students have been high performers for many years. Not only do Okaloosa students outperform the state average on FCAT, they also outperform the state and national averages on the ACT and the SAT. (See articles below.)
